Our Difference

True Interdisciplinary Care

What makes the biggest difference is that our patients are treated by the entire team throughout their clinic appointments.

At the initial visit, each patient is evaluated by a team of physicians including both plastic and orthopedic surgeons. Often, a nerve conduction study (EMG) will be performed on the same day by a physiatrist, and the entire team will then meet and discuss each patient’s case in detail. A comprehensive treatment plan is then developed.

Highly specialized imaging including MR neurograms and high-resolution ultrasound is available at UCSF. We utilize these technologies as needed for diagnosis and treatment planning. If a diagnostic ultrasound examination or ultra-sound-guided injection is helpful, it can often be performed during the same visit to help guide management.

We consider physical and hand therapy to be integral for optimum outcomes in our patients. Physical and hand therapy is available on site, and highly skilled hand and occupational therapists are available throughout the Bay Area and work closely with us. Finally, we recognize that many patients come from areas outside of our city to seek care, and so we have developed an extensive network of partner hand therapists throughout Northern California and beyond, and will work closely with them for optimal treatment outcomes.
